WA Japanese Language Speech Contest 2017

The aim of the WA Senior School Japanese Language Speech Contest 2017 is to encourage students of Japanese to showcase their language skills in a challenging environment. Winners from the WA competition will progress to the Australian final on Saturday, October 7th 2017 which will be held at the Japan Foundation, Sydney.

The 2017 competition is generously sponsored by the Japan Foundation, Sydney, and supported by the Department of Education, Consulate-General of Japan in Perth, and Hyogo Prefectural Government Cultural Centre.

The WA competition is for students in Years 11, 12 and individuals’ aged 17 or above who are no longer high school students. It has four categories:

  1. High School Senior Division
  2. Open Beginner Division
  3. Open Division
  4. Background Speaker Division

Up to two students per school per category will be accepted in the High School Senior Division. All contestants will receive a participation certificate. Prizes will also be awarded in each division.

Participants are required to submit an English summary of their speech with their application form and a copy of their full speech in Japanese and English one week prior to the contest.

Judging criteria will follow the Japan Foundation National Guidelines.
