WA Japanese Language Speech Contest 2019

The aim of the WA Senior School Japanese Language Speech Contest 2019 is to encourage students of Japanese to showcase their language skills in a challenging environment. Winners from the WA competition will progress to the Australian final on Saturday, October 12th 2019 which will be held at the Japan Foundation, Sydney.

The 2019 competition is generously sponsored by the Japan Foundation, Sydney, and supported by the University of Western Australia, Consulate-General of Japan in Perth, and Hyogo Prefectural Government Cultural Centre.

Participants are required to submit an English summary of their speech with their application form by Friday 9th August and a copy of their full speech in Japanese and English by Friday 16th August.

The WA competition has four categories:

  1. High School Senior Division
  2. Open Beginner Division
  3. Open Division
  4. Background Speaker Division

Up to two students per school per category will be accepted in the High School Senior Division.  Please note that only the winners of the High School and Open Divisions are eligible to compete at the national final.

All contestants will receive a participation certificate. Prizes will also be awarded in each division.
